Our History
Our chemical laboratory originated in the 1950s within the industrial complex of Attilio Carmagnani S.A.S., located along Via dei Reggio in Multedo di Pegli, Genoa. Initially managed by Attrezzature Carburanti S.p.A. to support the coastal depot connected to the Porto Petroli, the laboratory was essential for the quality control of petroleum products unloaded from ships.
A significant part of the current laboratory was developed by Mobil Oil Italiana, which at the time had its headquarters in Genoa and collaborated with Attilio Carmagnani S.A.S. for the distribution of fuels and combustibles in Liguria.
In the late 1960s, Mobil Oil Italiana relocated its headquarters from Genoa to Rome and transferred the entire laboratory—complete with equipment, instrumentation, and personnel to Attilio Carmagnani S.p.A.
From that moment, the laboratory began operating as a third-party service provider, focusing on quality control for petroleum products such as crude oil, gasoline, diesel, and fuel oil, serving major Italian and international inspection companies operating in Porto Petroli di Genova-Multedo. In addition to quality analyses, the laboratory provided technical consulting for the formulation of chemical products such as antifreeze, additives, thinners, and solvents for Carmagnani’s commercial activities.
In the 1970s, with increasing environmental awareness, the laboratory expanded its operations to include the analysis of water, sludge, and industrial residues.
In 1987, analytical activities for third parties experienced significant growth, driven by a multi-year contract with a multinational oil company for the quality control of retail outlets and depots nationwide.
This led to major investments in equipment and personnel, further strengthening the laboratory’s operational capacity.
Thus, in 1992, Analisi & Controlli (A&C) was founded, following the spin-off of Attilio Carmagnani S.p.A.’s chemical laboratory division, with the goal of creating synergies with other industry players.
In 1994, Tecnoerg Ricerca Applicata merged its petroleum analysis operations and biotechnology expertise into A&C, remaining part of the company until 1999, when ERG decided to focus on its core business in preparation for its stock market listing.
By the late 1990s, the laboratory also specialized in the analysis of solid fuels such as coal, petcoke, and biomass, serving clients including traders, inspection companies, and power plants.
Over the years, thanks to the expertise and dedication of its team, the laboratory has diversified its areas of analysis, introducing new sectors and expanding its services in already established fields.
